Directions for Treatment Exercise
- "What happens Next"
Sit in a comfortable chair or lie down in a quite place with no distractions.
The audio plays on my iPhone Safari & Chrome browser.
Dr. Pressman will go over the directions in the audio, but here is a summary.
Take a problem from the past or present.
Take that problem and put that imagine on a movie theater screen.
Imagine yourself sitting in a movie theater chair and you are watching the problem on the big screen.
As you are watching the problem unfold, you are merely observing what is happening, not controlling it. Meaning, you are a passive observer, not active.
If you find yourself controling the events on the screen rather than "watching" it, the treatment will not be as affective.
When this happens, it is a sign that you are using one of your defenses during the treatment process.
At this stage, the key is to just keep practicing, don't give up.
As you're watching yourself (not controlling) on the movie screen, keep asking yourself one question:
*** “What happens next” ***
You ask that question to Deconstruct the problem to your Core Fear, just like we did the first day.
When you get to your Core Fear, (the loss of love, identity, meaning, purpose or death) of your problem, now just sit in that fear.
Total listening time is 23 minutes.
Before your next session, do the treatment exercise “The Movie Screen” daily. Even if you feel uncomfortable or anxious while doing it. The more you do this exercise, the less uncomfortable it will become. After doing it several times, fill out the form below. You only need to fill out the form one time before our next session.
